The final version of the Ethereum 2.0 testnet, called Spadina, launched yesterday. It will serve as a pre-release control check and will allow market participants to test deposits and genesis – the most risky parts of the workflow. The network will work for 72 hours and, in case of uninterrupted functionality during the stated period, will allow developers to launch Ethereum 2.0 during the current year.
Recall that last month the Ethereum team launched the Medalla test network, which experts at that time considered the final one. Now Spadina and Medalla will work in parallel. At the same time, according to the plan, the release of the zero phase of the network is scheduled for November this year. “The network will gradually expand its functionality and become more important to the ecosystem over time,” Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently commented on the launch of the update.
