Fed: Massachusetts Institute of Technology to help research cryptocurrencies

The Federal Reserve System (US Federal Reserve) has announced a partnership with researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create and test digital currency, said member of the regulator’s board Lael Brainard.

According to her, the joint work will not only allow the department to further study the nuances of digital tools, but also explore the possibilities of creating a national cryptocurrency. “Given the important role of the dollar, it is important for us that the agency remains in line with the latest trends in central bank virtual currency policy,” said Lael Brainard. Earlier, a representative of the Federal Reserve noted that the regulator is conducting experiments related to distributed ledger technology and the possibilities for its use in working with cryptoassets.
