Litecoin has reignited its long-running rivalry with XRP after taking another provocative jab at the Ripple-linked cryptocurrency in a post that quickly caught the crypto community’s attention. This time, the Litecoin account joked that it could no longer use a controversial term when referring to XRP, prompting fresh reactions from the XRPArmy. The remark has added another twist to the ongoing rivalry between the two crypto communities.
In the Nov. 5 post, Litecoin wrote: “Me finding out I can’t use the word retarded for XRP anymore.” The remark seemed to poke fun at XRP while referencing restrictions on the offensive term, adding another provocative moment to the rivalry between the two crypto communities.
One XRP supporter was quick to fire back, questioning Litecoin’s standing in the crypto market and accusing it of underperforming against other established cryptocurrencies for years. The user argued that Litecoin had little room to mock XRP while Zcash had moved far ahead of it
The XRP supporter’s criticism also reflects a notable difference in the two assets’ recent market performance. Zcash (ZEC) has surged approximately 138% in 2026, while Litecoin (LTC) has fallen around 30% year-to-date, according to comparative market data. Litecoin has also lagged behind XRP in annualized returns over the past five years, giving the supporter’s argument some market context.
Another XRP supporter joined the discussion, questioning Litecoin’s relevance and taking a swipe at its real-world adoption, asking: “Has anyone used Litecoin in the past 10 years?”
The latest jab is not the first time Litecoin has taken aim at XRP and its community. The rivalry became particularly heated in August 2025, when Litecoin’s official X account published a lengthy, sarcastic post disguised as a “fun fact.” The message mocked XRP’s ambitions in the banking sector and ridiculed the narrative that Ripple’s payment infrastructure could transform traditional finance.
The post also took a personal swipe at Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, calling him “Brad Garlicmouse” in a satirical remark. It further questioned the value of XRP’s banking-related use cases and drew criticism from members of the XRP community.
The latest back-and-forth comes as both cryptocurrencies continue to trade significantly below their previous all-time highs. Litecoin is hovering around $55.57, approximately 86.5% below its 2021 peak, while XRP trades at $1.31 after losing roughly 64% of its value since hitting its $3.65 all-time high. Despite the sharp corrections, both assets remain in the spotlight as their communities debate their market performance and long-term relevance.
