The developers of the hacker software Ryuk used the Binance cryptocurrency platform to withdraw funds. So, it is known that about 1 million dollars stolen by fraudsters were sent using this platform within three years. The last such transaction took place this month, according to Forbes.
According to Interpol, hackers intensified during the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March-April this year. This time, the victims were representatives of the medical community and providers of medical services, whose data was encrypted for ransom. In addition to the funds already cashed, the fraudsters also have another $ 4.7 million, which are stored at various non-exchange addresses. In total, Ryuk developers managed to steal $ 61 million.
In turn, Binance representatives note that they do not stop working with malicious software and their developers, as well as scammers whose actions are aimed at money laundering. Despite the fact that the exchange is constantly modernizing its monitoring tools, it is often difficult to separate transactions “into black and white”, since the recipient may not have information about its illegal nature.
