Streamr Announces Testnet 2 Following Successful Testnet 1 In Preparation Of The Stream Network 1.0 Launch

Streamr, a fully decentralized and scalable protocol for many-to-many data pipelines, network analytics, and instant messaging,  is pleased to announce the start of Testnet2 following the successful launch of Testnet1.

Following its predecessor’s footsteps, Testnet2 is offering participants a reward pool of 1.5 million DATA, which is about $104k. Testnet 1, which ran from 5 December 2023 to 12 December 2023, offered a reward pool of 1 million DATA. Testnet 2 provides an opportunity for node Operators to boost a next-gen decentralized data broadcast network. Testnet 2 is set to start from 21 December 2023, running to 8 January 2024.

There are two options for earning the DATA rewards. First, participants can choose to become an Operator by downloading the latest version of the Streamr Node. The second option entails delegating their DATA tokens to a reliable Operator.

Streamr is operated with the use of Stream Sponsorships, smart contracts that release funds over time to Operators. An Operator’s node follows the set protocol rule of property forwarding messages to other connected nodes. The Operators need to ensure there is good uptime and sufficient hardware resources to handle the traffic of the available incentives’ streams. On the other hand, delegators and participants offering their DATA tokens to operators provide the needed liquidity to support these operations. Note that the number of DATA tokens staked by the Operator on the Sponsorship determines the size of their share in the token flow.

Testnet2 will be followed by Testnet3, which is scheduled to start from 15 January 2024 to 29 January 2024. During this period, Streamr will offer participants a reward pool of 2.5 million DATA. Testnet3 will be the final Testnet before the official release of Streamr 1.0 in  February 2024. Notably, the 1.0 milestone will unlock opportunities for Sponsors and Operators through DATA tokens.  The 1.0 release better positions the Streamr Network in enhancing the data broadcasting capacity of Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePINs). The Streamr Network’s secure, serverless, and scalable design offers a platform that helps DePINs to progressively decentralize their tech stack.

In addition, Streamr has the potential to serve as a neutral data layer that provides AI with tamperproof and reliable access to real-time data streams. The Streamr Network might further be deployed in coordination and communication between AI models

Notably, Stream has been testing the scalability and stability of decentralized live video feeds. Still, in the testing stage, the Streamr protocol will allow the live video feed consumers to become the video feed’s distribution pipeline. This will create a distribution mechanism that is more efficient, greener, and scalable for users.
