The Bank of Russia will conduct a study on the feasibility of launching a digital version of the national currency. The report released by the department notes that the new asset will not replace cash and electronic funds, but will only supplement them.
Despite the fact that the decision to launch a new financial instrument has not yet been made, but according to the regulator, active work in this direction should be started today. Particular attention should be paid to economic and technological aspects, which are planned to be discussed directly with market specialists, financial analysts and society. Discussions will last until the end of this year (until that time, the Central Bank hopes to receive proposals for a new initiative).
Recall that the Central Bank is considering the possibility of launching the digital ruble was first announced by the head of the regulator Elvira Nabiullina last summer.
