The Swedish authorities will study the issue of switching to the digital version of the crown. Until the end of 2022, specialists under the supervision of the ex-head of the financial committee of the country’s chief financial regulator Anna Kinberg Batra will conduct research in this direction. At the moment, Sweden is one of the first countries to pay attention to digital assets. For example, the government is launching a pilot project for the introduction of an e-krona jointly with the international consulting company Accenture Plc.
According to statistics from the country’s central bank, the Riksbank, the Swedes prefer to use electronic money, the interest in which has increased during the coronavirus pandemic. Now only 10% of all payment transactions are made with banknotes. Earlier, the representative of the Riksbank, Stefan Ingves, emphasized that the market for electronic transactions should function safely and be accessible to all segments of the population.
