Bank of England: we are considering the issue of cryptocurrency

The Bank of England is considering issuing a national digital asset. This was stated by the head of the regulator, Andrew Bailey, speaking to students on Monday.

“We will continue to work in this direction, since it is of great importance for making payments and society as a whole,” he said, emphasizing that over time, transfers will be mainly digital.

Andrew Bailey noted that at the moment, the attention of the world community is drawn to solving the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as soon as these problems are resolved, the community will probably be interested in the development of national cryptocurrencies again.
