Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, has denied the information that the normative acts being developed will include data on administrative and criminal liability for the purchase of cryptocurrencies. Earlier it was reported that several bills implying amendments to the Criminal Code, the Code of Administrative Offenses, have already been submitted to the Ministry of Economic Development of the country.

According to the official, the Bank of Russia is primarily seeking to limit the use of digital assets by Russians. “The regulator is sure that it is necessary to limit the ability to buy these instruments, especially for the unskilled part of the population, which may lose their finances in the framework of working with the new currency,” said Anatoly Aksakov.

It is likely that the regulator is alarmed that digital instruments can be used by Russians as a means of saving or will receive greater recognition than the national currency.
